Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
A Night in Tunisia/Like Someone in Love 1960

Von Freeman 1923-2012
Chicago jazz legend saxophonist Von Freeman died on Saturday. He was 88 years old, and had been named a NEA Jazz Master for 2012. Practically unknown outside of his hometown, except by musicians and critics, he was justifiably proud of his unique sound. He never felt the need to tour or move to one coast or the other to advance his career. Or, as he put it, “I just think you try to get famous within yourself.”
